Week 15B

12/2/15

I believe my website is finished. I took care of the problems I've been having. I made a less distracting background with a lot more negative space and less clouds. I switched all of the text in the site to open sans with the section titles all in caps and bold, the text boxes have 2px line spacing with 14pt font size and they are all colored black. I've decided to remove the background color from the text boxes to see if they would be ok with the background and I've decided that this is sort of better. The color was really their just to see were the boxes were anyway. There was also some spelling errors that I'm not proud of that were fixed. I also solved some space, size and quality issues I've been having with some pictures.

Week 15A

11/30/15

Still working on the website. Today I made a background with clouds from the wall in Toy Story which I thought was very fitting for Lasseter's design. I used photoshop to separate the clouds and put them in a pattern that would repeat. I realize it's pretty busy but I was just happy it worked. I will change it later. Then I made small plaques in illustrator of the pixar movies that received academy awards. Then I copied them to photoshop as vector objects and saved them all as the same size. Then I put them on the banner, which sort of works, but the pictures that come next appear at the bottom and the are animated. Next time I will change the fonts and the background and maybe the cropping of images.

Event 2

11/23/15

I went to Getting Away With Shit: Real Talk with Timothy Goodman on 11/23/15. This event was about designer Timothy Goodman talking about his life's work. He told us that he was from New York, he was not around his father much, and he used to be quite the little trouble maker. He told us some things that he liked like dick jokes, swearing, stand up comedy, hip hop music, and of course design. He used to work for Apple but then he saw a design that just looked like a scribble and he thought that it was incredible that someone got payed just to paint shit on a wall. He asked someone once what do they do with their job and they replied, "whatever I can get away with." That was incredibly inspiring to him and to the audience of the event including me. The 6 rules to this were to know the rules, have some audacity, don't ask for permission but ask for forgiveness, listen to yourself, get into your work, be curious and stay young. Then he showed off his work. He showed us a CNNpolitics.com bar sign that clearly looked like a penis that he designed and got away with. He designed a room in Los Vegas that has Tupac lyrics written on the walls as tribute to him. Then he attempted to write the most valentines in one day using social media which Guinness had to deny as a world record. Then he talked about his famous experiment were he dated a close friend for 40 days. He and his date were complete opposites when it came to dating. The notes that they took from the experiment were turned into a book and apparently they sold the movie rights to Warner Brothers which is currently trying to make a screen play. Then he ended with some Instagram poetry that he wrote. I really like how he talked about his inspiration of his designs.

Event 1

11/19/15

I attended Pens and Pints on 11/19/15. It was held at a bar in Lancaster named Tellus360. It mostly involved socializing with other students interested in design. At each table there were large sheets of paper to draw on and for the most part everyone drew at least one thing but others drew a lot. I personally noticed a lot of writing rather than drawing which I was a little disappointed in because I was hoping to see a larger quantity of interesting designs. I'm not saying the designs that I saw were bad, there just wasn't as many as I was hoping to see. Of course I did not check every table so maybe more designs were found at the end of the night. I think the point of the event was for students, also known as: the future generation, to discuss among themselves with little to no restrictions about what they dissatisfied with and how they would like to change it. In other words they are sort of planing for the future an how to change it. Of course with all he alcohol  some people said some crazy stuff but maybe that stuff is just crazy enough to work, and maybe that was the plan all along; to get young people thinking about the future no matter how ambitious their crazy plans maybe as well as criticizing parts of the current generation.

Week 13B

11/18/15

Today we continued to work on our websites. I was able to but most of my information into blocks in the approximate position I want them. The problem I was having was from the fact that My blocks were not in containers and I needed to have them float in the direction I wanted them. I also decided to do an animated banner that I found code from
http://designshack.net/articles/css/infinitephotobanner/.
I used the object I made in illustrator to test if the banner was working, it worked a little bit but it was still a little broken.
Here is what I have now:
